Various different museums are scattered around the shoreline of Lake Tahoe, providing added interest to those on vacation. Tahoe City itself is home to a handful of reliable and recommended museums, such as the Watson Cabin Museum on the North Lake Boulevard, which was constructed just over 100 years ago and is now mentioned on the National Register of Historic Sites, since it is the most historical residence in the whole city.

Close by and also within Tahoe City is the Gatekeeper's Log Cabin Museum, which is brimming with exhibits relating to the region's pioneers and American Indians. Alongside this particular attraction is a popular park, which comes complete with its very own picnic tables and pleasant views.


On the western side of Lake Tahoe and within the town of Homewood, the Maritime Museum celebrates the region's length maritime history, with collections including everything from motor boats and sailing boats, to aquaplanes and even angling equipment, both old and new.

For the younger generation, the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is one to consider, being is housed within a former civic auditorium and filled with hands-on activities. Also of interest is the fun Tahoe Tessie's Lake Tahoe Monster Museum on Kings Beach, where you will hear stores of the legendary Tessie monster, who is believed to live within the actual lake.
